The Animal Procedures Committee

The Animal Procedures Committee (APC) is an advisory, non-departmental public body of the Home Office whose role is to advise the Secretary of State on all matters concerning the use of animals in scientific procedures.

NC3Rs (National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research)

The National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) is an independent scientific organisation that supports the UK science base by driving and funding innovation and technological developments that replace or reduce the need for animals in research and testing, and lead to improvements in welfare where animals continue to be used.

Understanding Animal Research aims to achieve broad understanding and acceptance of the humane use of animals in biomedical research in the UK, to advance science and medicine. It provides information about the need for animal research, the controls under which this research is carried out, and the benefits to medicine which have resulted.
