Oxford provides a huge range of support for research staff, ranging from help finding funding, to career advice, to guidance for new principal investigators.  

Even though you’re employed for the purpose of research, you may be interested in teaching and supervising. It can sometimes be difficult for researchers to find the opportunities - but they are out there so it is worth being proactive in seeking them out and being flexible about what sort of experience you gain.

Funding for graduate courses is competitive, but the University offers more support than you might think. In the 2024-25 academic year, just over 48% of our new graduate students received full or partial funding from the University or other funders.

Research governance ensures research is undertaken in compliance with regulatory and funder requirements, protecting the researcher and the University, while also supporting research excellence and enhancing research culture.

Big challenges face our world today: from pioneering new cures to setting society-shaping policies, from creating new energy sources to determining modern ethics. 

There are many opportunities for the public and communities to engage with the University’s research.
