What is Oxplore Teach?
Time for extended discussion and nurturing intellectual curiosity can be hard to find. Oxplore Teach provides ready-to-run, question-led sessions to introduce challenging content, deepen subject understanding and give students structured opportunities to think, speak and reason carefully.
Oxplore Teach has evolved from the University of Oxford’s extensive research into classroom challenges, learner engagement and the development of academic self-concept, particularly during the early secondary years. Its design reflects evidence on how to sustain curiosity, support thoughtful classroom discussion and help students see themselves as capable, confident learners.
Alongside classroom challenges, Oxplore Teach offers flexible CPDL modules grounded in this same research and shaped by classroom practice. These short, focused modules support teachers in strengthening areas such as oracy, transition and sustained engagement, helping you translate evidence into practical approaches in your own setting.
Who is Oxplore Teach for?
Oxplore Teach is designed for teachers working with learners aged 11 and above (Key Stage 3 and beyond), including classroom teachers, teaching assistants, tutors and enrichment leads.
Whether you’re planning enrichment days, drop-down sessions, extracurricular clubs or integrating challenge-based learning into timetabled lessons, Oxplore Teach offers flexible resources to complement and extend your existing curriculum.
How can you use Oxplore Teach?
Classroom-ready challenges
Oxplore Challenges are ready-to-run sessions in two formats — 45-minute lessons or bite-sized 10-minute activities. Each session is built around a stimulating question and encourages learners to explore ideas, discuss evidence and practice key skills such as reasoning, creativity and oracy. They work well in class, assemblies, clubs or enrichment slots.
Professional development (CPDL)
The platform also includes a suite of CPDL modules designed for teachers. These bite-sized online learning modules share research summaries, practical tips and classroom strategies — for example on building academic self-concept, supporting transitions, or improving speaking and listening skills.
Oxplore Teach CPDL materials draw on published research and best practice to help you support learners from a wide range of backgrounds, including strategies to sustain high attainment through transition points such as Key Stage 3. Each module takes you step by step through evidence-based ideas and how they can work in practice.
Flexible and easy to use
Oxplore Teach resources are designed to fit around busy schedules. You can pick a single session for today’s lesson, plan a series for a term, or dive into the CPDL modules in short bursts when it suits you.
