Data handling and acquisition

It's important to have good processes in place for collecting or creating your data, and for working with it during the active phase of your project. This will enable you to get the most out of your data, and will also help maximise its value for the longer term.

Data collection

Data collection forms the foundation of many research projects. Ensuring that this foundation is as solid as possible gives the rest of the project the best chance of accomplishing its goals.

Data reuse

It is good practice to check whether any pre-existing datasets relevant to your research are available to you. This should be done as early as possible: ideally while your project is still in the planning stages.
