As a student at the University of Oxford you are encouraged to participate in all aspects of life within the city. As well as suggesting some simple ways to get involved in your community, here you will find some useful tips on keeping yourself and your possessions safe.

A great way of getting to know Oxford and to feel safe in your surroundings is to contribute to the local community. Students make up 24% of the city’s population the positive impact you can have is enormous.

The University and Thames Valley Police work to protect you and your property, but you can follow some simple tips to deter criminals. Should the worst happen and you are burgled there are some effective steps you can take to minimise the impact.

Oxford offers so many different ways to get involved no matter what your cause or passion and the amazing friends you’ll make along the way mean that the time spent volunteering will be one of your best experiences at university.

We all deserve to be part of a community where we feel safe, welcome and respected. As a member of Oxford's community, it's important to prioritise our own safety, as well as the safety of others at all times, but particularly on nights out.

In Oxford, you’re never far away from green spaces throughout the city, including meadows, University Parks, and the Botanic Garden, all surrounded by rolling countryside, which we all have a responsibility to protect.
