About us

Harris Manchester has a warm and friendly atmosphere in which each student is supported and treated as an individual.

College accommodation is all on the main site and students can generally live in for at least the first and final years of their course.

Our excellent librarians manage some 70,000 volumes, and the library itself is open to students 24 hours a day during term time. Each student also has a small book grant to spend as they wish. The college has a number of scholarships for second undergraduate degrees.

The student community is socially active, with a lively variety of cultural events. The non-denominational Chapel provides a focus for prayer and reflection drawing from a range of faith traditions, and is a key practice and performance space for the College's musical activities; the Maevadi Basement meeting room is equipped with a keyboard and drumkit.

— Leoni, Harris Manchester student
“I was a bit worried about being in a mature-student College before, but now that I'm here at Harris Manchester I've told all my friends that they should also apply to study in a college for mature students. The age that I was entering was 21, so I was a bit apprehensive that I'd be one of the youngest students here – and I was, but it wasn't a bad thing! It just feels like a college filled with older siblings, which makes it a really welcoming environment. Harris Manchester is a really small college – you get used to the environment and you get to know all the buildings. Within the first week, I think I was pretty confident I could walk anywhere, see someone and feel comfortable waving at them or smiling at them and not feel like I had to look at the floor and run off”

Do you choose a college?

Not exactly. You can put a college's campus code on your UCAS form to specify a preference but you might still be shortlisted and offered a place by another college.
