About us

We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive community and we take student welfare seriously. We stand, above all, for the following principles: opportunity, collaboration and being forward-looking and far-reaching.

St. Anne’s catering team is very aware of the need to look after the environment. We are mindful of sustainability and work towards an ethos based around seasonal food and sustainably sourced ingredients. Our chefs pride themselves in creating delicious and imaginative menus with emphasis on fresh, sustainable ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible. Most meals are relaxed affairs but there are also formal guest nights, bringing some of Oxford’s traditions to our vibrant, modern hall. An alternative area for dining is the St Anne's Coffee Shop (STACS), where we have paninis, toasties, pizza, an assortment of cakes and a selection of coffees and teas to take away or eat in in a comfy, relaxed environment. All undergraduate accommodation includes communal kitchens for self-catering.

Our two large libraries are normally open 24 hours a day and house over 110,000 books. The College holds many events throughout the year including regular music nights, film screenings and guest lectures.

We have an a cappella choir, a string orchestra (St Anne's Camerata), a music society and a wide range of sports teams. There are four music practice rooms, and St Anne’s is the first College in Oxford to become an “all-Steinway school”. The Junior Common Room (JCR) Committee, as well as representing the interests and concerns of the student body, also organises events ranging from discussion groups to art classes.

The JCR committee also hosts Welfare Teas during term-time, where any undergraduates can come along to unwind and relax with free drinks and snacks—often themed—and a chat in a very casual and laidback environment.

The Junior Common Room itself is a large, laid-back and student-centred space, and is perhaps one of the most-furnished common rooms in Oxford, currently housing:

  • a Steinway piano
  • two resident guitars
  • a TV and games consoles
  • a pool table
  • table football
  • table tennis
  • many board games
  • and plenty of comfy seating and student décor all in there permanently.

Where you'll find us

St Anne’s is slightly north of the historic city centre – 5 minutes by bike – by the University Parks and close to the University Science Area, the Language Centre and IT Services.

The College is over the road from the Mathematical Institute and the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, which is home to several humanities faculties.

With the college also next to Jericho, famous for its trendy atmosphere, this gives an enormous range of cafes, restaurants, social spaces and shops for students to explore.

Not exactly. You can put a college's campus code on your UCAS form to specify a preference but you might still be shortlisted and offered a place by another college.
