Where to get help with data if you are applying to Oxford

General guidance is available from the Data management plans page.

Oxford supports a customised version of DMPonline: a free online tool for creating data management plans. Anyone can sign up for an account with DMPonline. If you are not affiliated with Oxford, you will not automatically see the tailored guidance for Oxford researchers. However, you can opt to see this by creating a plan, and then selecting the University of Oxford in the ‘Select guidance’ section of the ‘Project details’ tab. The tailored guidance includes information about (and links to) Oxford tools, services, and resources for managing your research data.

An overview of Oxford’s centrally provided storage options for live research data is available from the Keeping working data safe page.

However, data storage in Oxford is frequently provided locally, at the departmental or divisional level. To find out what may be available to you, you will need to contact local IT support in the unit you hope to join, or the unit in which your collaborators are based.

If you wish to continue working with data collected or generated during a project at a previous institution, you will need to clarify the situation regarding ownership of the data. If your previous institution has a claim to the intellectual property rights, and the data has not been made available under an open licence, a data sharing agreement may be necessary.
